When I was approached to dramaturg this play, I knew I wasn’t just dramaturging the play. I was dramaturging child abuse. Audiences were going to leave this show not only commenting on the production but the very real issue at hand. Through discussion with a Keene State College counselor and the New Hampshire Children’s Trust, I developed a guidebook for audiences similarly organized to Vogel’s scene headings, which are driving instructions, that gave guidelines on how to spot and take action against suspected child abuse.
