Sitka: A Transfer Story

Sitka: A Transfer Story is an original one-act play that was commissioned by the Sitka Historical Society for the 150th Alaska Day festival. It was written by local playwright, Zachary Desmond and debuted on October 14, 2017.

The play centers on Tlingit, Russian, and American citizens of the town in 1870 and how they are navigating the issues caused by the changes in land ownership, racial discrimination, and of course, love. The play was loosely inspired by the disappearance of Arctic explorer, Sir John Franklin and his wife, Lady Jane Franklin’s lengthy and pioneering search for him.
